Douglasdale Dairy Ice bank

This particular ice bank was commissioned to replace a Ammonia Ice bank that had gone beyond its service life and was starting to cause stress being a dangerous gas in a dense suburban area and costing a lot to keep running.  The original plant was built when there were far fewer people in the area of Douglasdale Fourways in Johannesburhg.

The ice bank is designed to make 20 tons of ice per tank with 2 x tanks totalling 40 tons of ice storage.

The tanks were built to replace existing tanks so they were manufactured  the exact same size with stainless steel inner tanks skins and SS coils.

Cooling comes from two stand alone systems with cooling towers producing a rough value of 250 kW of cooling to produce ice per tank.

The tanks have air agitation and proper distribution manifolds to ensure the water is as cold as possible and ice mealt is effective and complete between cycles.

The Final tank was installed early in 2023 .
